Choosing material for your tennis court

Building a tennis court at home can save you money long term by helping you avoid expensive tennis club memberships, and it also gives your children a place at home where they can play and keep active. When wanting to build a tennis court on your property, there are a lot of considerations you'll have to make. You need to decide what tennis court builder to hire, where you should put it and what size you want it in. However, before you start looking for a good tennis court builder, you need to decide what material you want your tennis court to be made of.

Concrete

Concrete is a durable, low budget material that many people use to build tennis courts. It's very low maintenance, which makes it appealing to a lot of people. You only need to sweep it when it gets dirty and perform minor repairs if it cracks. It's also possible to use a concrete tennis court for other purposes, such as basketball, as the surface isn't only adapted for playing tennis on. The downside of concrete tennis courts is, however, that they might not be very comfortable to play on. Because concrete is so hard, it can affect your body negatively as you're running and jumping on it.

Synthetic turf

A court with synthetic turf is a bit more expensive than a concrete court, as you still need to lay concrete underneath it for it to be stable and allow a good bounce. It also requires more maintenance, as the synthetic turf might be sensitive to rain and need to be protected by a tarp during storm season. They are, however, softer than concrete courts, which is gentler for your body as you're playing. They also look like more professional tennis courts than concrete courts. The fabric also protects you if you fall.

Natural grass

Natural grass is the best option if you're a very active tennis player that wants to get a court that mimics the look and feel of a professional tennis court. If you do it right, it creates a surface hard enough for fast play, but soft enough to not strain your body on. It's not very expensive to build, as you'll be using materials from nature. It is, however, very high maintenance and needs to be trimmed and watered often in order to keep its appearance. You should contact a professional tennis court builder like Premier Sports & Leisure and let them have a look at your property before you decide to go with this option, as they will be able to tell you if your property is appropriate for a tennis court of this type.
